Pepper Mill

Pepper Mill

Postby Selkie » Tue Feb 09, 2010 9:53 am

We bought a battery operated pepper mill in Debenhams recently and is it WONDERFUL!!

I know it probably sounds like a real lazy person's gadget but I always have had problems with the manual ones and this makes it sooooooooooooo easy 8-)

So many salt and pepper grinders are so badly made they don't last five minutes. I've had this one for over 20 years and it still grinds perfectly (course to the left and fine to the right).

Oh that looks cute too! I blame my problems with the manual ones on being left handed, but I think it's just me  :pale:

As grinders rotate in both directions, I think it's fair to say you are cack-handed Selkie ;)

Do you not have the shops, that sell things in bulk in big bins, and you just shovel out what you need into a plastic bag. The one local to me is/was called Scoopers, fantastic for big baking projects, Christmas cakes/puddings, wide range of herbs and peppers, also did bulk bombay mix, rice crackers, choc coated peanuts, yoghurt coated raisins etc.

Wow that would be dangerous ... but no we have no bulh "bins" that I know of around here ... the nearest to that are the Indian "Dukas" that sell in bulk but the coloured peppercorns are not one of their staples! Will have to find a Jamacian shop!

... failing that will have to ask 'Dina to post me some!!

http://www.thespicery.com/pages/spices_ ... blend.html

Unsure how this compares, if their P&P is ludicrous, I could collect and post ;)

Edit: Notice it says free P&P for the UK, but if there was enough interest on here for spices, a 10% discount would surely not go amiss after a quick personal visit from me 8-)

Edit No 2: Would this be a good place to push Kilted Fairy Dust (a bit too salty for me - and lost it's garlicky-ness once opened), and possibly an inroad for Biscombe/Moggy for chilli products?

I'm looking for any excuse to trot along there, and have a good sniff (I bet it smells gorgeous), I only found the site because of a link that Lottie posted saying what independents are in your postcode, so they could definitely do with a big shove and a leg up. Their celery salt seems quite pricey though, compared to Sainsbury - almost on a par with Schwartz (bit pricier) if you buy a big enough bag.

But seem cheaper on mixed peppercorns.
